Announcing the Plessy Person of the Year: Trombone Shorty
Plessy School created the Plessy Person of the Year in 2018 and named the only and one, Queen Diva, Big Freedia as the recipient. This year, we are thrilled to honor a former student of Mc15 (our campus' former name), Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews.
Shorty was born in New Orleans and grew up in the Treme neighborhood. At the tender age of 4, he appeared onstage with Bo Diddley at Jazz Fest. He participated in brass bands growing up, becoming a bandleader by the age of 6. He split his high school years between Warren Easton High School and NOCCA. Today, He records albums and tours with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue Band. His latest album is called Parking Lot Symphony. Due to his very busy schedule, Plessy School is thankful to Mr. Andrews for taking time to accept this award (note: Trombone Shorty will not be performing but will do a meet & greet with the students and fans).
Congratulations to Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, the 2019 Plessy Person of the Year!
